Frequently Asked Questions

Chlorine dioxide is an oxidizer and is one of the most powerful disinfectants for use and is harmless to the human body, below a certain ppm.

The safe standard for human safety is 0.1 ppm as per the OSHA and Medistick Plus emits about 0.002 ppm of chlorine dioxide, so it can be said to be very safe.

Nevertheless, MEDiSTiCK Plus eliminates influenza, bacteria, germs,  viruses, and other micro-organisms.

Medistick Plus is an eco-friendly space sterilizer that disperses disinfectant solution. Each stick contains an internal diffuser which is activated by bending the stick until a snapping sound is made. The liquid in the tube will activate and turn yellow. Each stick contains chlorine dioxide in a 6.6ml liquid tube which is consistently emitted in gas form in a 12 square-foot radius for a period of four to six weeks.  Each stick is good for use until the liquid in the tube turns clear.

Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is a chemical compound consisting of one chlorine atom and two oxygen atoms. It is a reddish to yellowish-green gas at room temperature that dissolves in water. It is used for a variety of antimicrobial uses, including disinfection. Chlorine dioxide is used as a disinfectant, sanitizer and sterilizer with growing usage across many industries and countries. Some of the industries are the beverage industry, fruit and vegetable processing plants, pulp and paper industries, and industrial waste treatment sites.

Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is in general a very powerful disinfectant. Chlorine dioxide is a broad oxidant and sanitizing agent; it functions by disrupting cell membranes and protein synthesis. It can be used as a gas or in an aqueous form. Chlorine dioxide has been widely studied as a sanitizer and typical aqueous concentrations range from 50 to 200 ppm. As a gas, chlorine dioxide has been shown to kill bacterial spores at concentrations ranging from 10 to 40 mg mole per liter and with contact times of at least 30 min on surfaces such as metals, plastics, and glass (but less efficiently when applied to wood). Concentrations of chlorine dioxide gas as low as 2 mg mole per liter have been shown to inactivate more than 5 log CFU cm−2 of Listeria monocytogenes biofilm cells on a meat slicer, demonstrating the potential of this sanitizer.  (See more on ScienceDirect.com)

MEDiSTiCK Plus has been used as a disinfectant product in South Korea since 1959.  OSHA regulates the level of chlorine dioxide in workplace air. The occupational exposure limit for an 8-hour workday, 40-hour workweek is 0.1 parts per million (0.28 milligrams per cubic meter [mg/m³]).  Each Medistick Plus stick contains 6.6ml of chlorine dioxide—which is well below established toxicity or hazardous use levels.

Chlorine dioxide is added to drinking water to protect people from harmful bacteria and other microorganisms. Most people will be exposed to chlorine dioxide and its disinfection by-product, chlorite ions, when they drink water that has been treated with chlorine dioxide.

If you were to breathe air containing chlorine dioxide gas, you might experience irritation in your nose, throat, and lungs. If you were to eat or drink large amounts of chlorine dioxide or chlorite, you might experience irritation in the mouth, esophagus, or stomach. Most people will not be exposed to chlorine dioxide or chlorite in amounts large enough to damage other parts of the body, but if you were, you might experience shortness of breath and other respiratory problems because of damage to the substances in blood that carry oxygen throughout the body.

Chlorine Dioxide has been used for over 100 years as an effective disinfectant against viruses, bacteria, and odor.  There are numerous studies being done on Chlorine Dioxide and it has been approved by the FDA, EPA, WHO as disinfectant to work against viruses and bacteria.  IMPORTANT: Please note that should NOT be used as a treatment or a cure for COVID-19. Please consult your local medical professional or Center for Disease Control for specific guidance.

Contact with Chlorine Dioxide can irritate the skin and eyes causing watery eyes and seeing halos around lights.  Breathing Chlorine Dioxide gas directly or in large amounts can irritate the nose and throat—causing shortness of breath, coughing and wheezing.

In case of skin contact with chlorine dioxide, immediately wash or shower to remove the chemical from your skin.  Avoid ingesting the liquid by any means necessary.

If you or someone you know has swallowed the chlorine dioxide liquid, please CALL FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL HELP IMMEDIATELY.

MEDiSTiCK Plus works as an effective disinfectant in any indoor environment.  Please feel free to use MEDiSTiCK Plus in any room, car, truck, refrigerated church/religious environment, school environment, manufacturing floor, etc.  Please note that each MEDiSTiCK Plus stick releases gas in a 12 square-foot radius for a period of five to six weeks.  MEDiSTiCK Plus works more effectively in a cooler, well-ventilated environment but can also work in hot environments with a slightly shorter shelf-life.

I was on a work assignment and had to stay in a hostel.  The hostel smelled a little “musty” so I activated MEDiSTiCK Plus and left it in the room.  When I got back from my meetings that evening, to my great surprise, the musty odor had completely disappeared.  This gives me great confidence that this product is working against bacteria in the environment.
